Jin Shin Jyutsu Parlour
2026
The installation ‘Jin Shin Jyutsu Parlour’ was born out of the intention to place the immaterial central. Jin Shin Jyutsu is a Japanese energetic healing art, using the hands to connect ‘energy locks’ on the body in order to remove blockages and make energy flow. Janet Vollebregt has been studying and practicing this art since 1997 as part of her research into physical and spatial energy and their inter-relatedness. In the installation or ‘parlour’ people are invited to lay down and auto-apply Jin Shin Jyutsu on themselves, instructions floating on a cloud above their head. The parlour is surrounded by painted scrolls, serving as space separations and at the same time depicting abstract versions of the various energy flows in the body as described in the Jin Shin Jyutsu scriptures. Earlier works, pendants and piercings, activate the parlour and that harmonize both the user of space and space itself through the use of crystals. A prayer wheel is provided to set the intention of the Jin Shin Jyutsu session.
